Welcome to GRAMMARTOPIA: Adventures in English Literacy, a series of live online summer camps where your Middle-Schoolers, ages 12-15, will have the opportunity to develop and polish their English language literacy in a choice of three distinct modules.

Each module is fast-paced and jam-packed with layers of activities designed to help your child:

· understand and apply basic building blocks of English
· build a more precise and powerful vocabulary
· analyze and interpret English fiction and nonfiction
· express themselves more fluently in writing, and

· communicate more reliably in English.

A1D4 – GRAMMAR FOR WRITING
Monday-Friday, 9:00-11:00am EDT
for 2 weeks starting June 21 through July 2, 2021

You will learn:
· 8 Basic puzzle pieces of English grammar
· How to use them to build interesting sentences
· Strategies to avoid sentence potholes
· Paragraph construction from topic sentence to clincher
· How to add description, emphasis…and more!

B2E5 – CLOSE READING & VOCABULARY
Monday-Friday, 9:00-11:00am EDT
for 2 weeks starting July 5 through July 16, 2021

You will learn:
· Over 200 English words, their pronunciation, and usage
· 12 close reading and reasoning strategies
· Literary elements and signaling devices
· Artful thinking routines and note-taking techniques
· 
Structural considerations in fiction & nonfiction…and more!

C3F6 – WRITING PURPOSES AND PATTERNS
Monday-Friday, 9:00-11:00am EDT
for 2 weeks starting July 19 through July 30, 2021

You will learn:
· Patterns for 6+ types of common compositions
· 12 good leads to capture a reader’s attention
· Strategies to create sentence variety and effectiveness
· Organization and cohesion within compositions
· Methods to enhance description, expression, precision…and more!

 

Meet your GRAMMARTOPIA adventure guide…


Linda Lanza holds a degree with highest honors in English Literature/Creative Poetry from Rutgers University. Post graduate work includes the completion of 440 hours of training under the supervision of Dr. Sherry Reiter, RPT, for a credential in therapeutic writing. 
Linda is author of three books of poetry and recipient of the National Association for Poetry Therapy’s Distinguished Service Award.

When she is not teaching or writing, Linda enjoys reading, making calligraphic paintings and handmade books, fiber arts, and walking outdoors. She resides in New Jersey in a home filled with books and two cats halfway between a river and an ocean.

4)  Before GRAMMARTOPIA begins, check your email for the Zoom details to join our adventure and to download pdf study materials.



COST…

$854 includes pdf study packs to download for each module.


REQUIREMENTS…

· A computer or device with the Zoom app and a reliable internet connection.

· A simple list of required writing supplies will be included in a confirmation email.

REFUNDS…

There are no refunds. In the event of an emergency, please arrange for a substitute student to take your child’s reserved spot.
